Midterm Portfolio
This assignment made us use our skills in rhetorical analysis in order to write a reflection piece, a visual analysis piece, and a piece analyzing a written text.
I felt that this was a very useful assignment as it not only proved to be a very satisfying culmination of our study on rhetorical analysis, but also further honed my skills and abilities as a writer. In learning how to analyze a piece of written or visual text, I've learned to construct these pieces much better myself. Before this assignment and the rough drafts leading up to it, my most valuable academic writing skill was to fill up pages and add a few big words here and there. I really feel that I can use these skills in many areas of my life for years to come.
Final Essay -- Issue Exploration Project
With this essay, I was able to choose an issue and explore the different points of view associated with it. I then was able to utilize the skills I learned within this course in order to create an interesting and engaging piece regarding the chosen issue. I actually made a conscious effort to choose a difficult topic because I wanted to test my skills in this area and even possibly stretch them to new levels. I enjoyed writing this paper, but I only wish that I had more time to focus on it. Instead, I had four other papers to turn in that were announced and due at the same times. I had to split my time between this and the other four papers.
