HIST 1510 -- World History Since 1500 C.E.

Professor Cyriaque Beurtheuret

This class provided me with exactly what I was looking for. When I signed up for it, I knew that I wanted a more comprehensive knowledge of the world's history during this time period. Obviously, it's expected that I would receive that, but in my past experience with history classes, the more recent decades -- and even centuries -- are somewhat ignored because the school year has run out and the curriculum can't really be completed. So I was pleasantly surprised by this class and by my professor's ability to engage our minds in order to allow so much information to actually sink in. Beyond that, this class is the first I have had that provides me with an actual college feel. That's not to offend anyone. I very much enjoy the classes I am taking, but this one feels like a link between first semester college and graduate study in terms of difficulty, critical thinking, etc.

Twelve Page Research Paper

This was an assignment designed to engage students' critical thinking abilities while forcing them to stay within the bounds of academic research and writing, while managing their time effectively to complete a large assignment over the course of four weeks.

This assignment was very challenging, but also very rewarding. I, myself, received a grade that was less than satisfactory for my own personal tastes, but to have completed a fifteen page research paper was remarkable to me. This was the first assignment due in our class, and I believe that it helped me to not only focus my attention toward world history in general, but also to complete large assignments by their due date. And even beyond that, the critique of my paper that I gained from my professor only served to get me better grades on the rest of my assignments.
