ENGL 2010 -- Intermediate Writing
Instructor: Charlotte Howe
At the beginning of this semester, we began brainstorming and researching world issues that we felt needed to be fixed. Then we got into groups based on our topics and wrote a group paper about it. Our issue was lack of education and how it affects the world. After we wrote our group paper, we had an idea of how our group dynamic affected the writing process. We took a bit of a break from each other and wrote two of our own papers before we grouped up again to turn everything into an online magazine that showcased our pieces. Each of us has a portion of the group paper, a profile on someone connected to our issue, and then another piece in the genre of our choosing. Then, we each turned one of our papers into something of a different medium, i.e. digital story, comic strip, collage, etc.
I've never been much of a group worker. It's not anything to do with working well with others. I simply work better on my own. But this process really helped me learn how to work in a group when it's necessary. It also helped me to develop a sense of what changes can be made when other ideas come into the mix, and how to adapt something so that it speaks from everyone involved instead of being separate segments from each person.
